2012 TONY AWARDS
En la madruigada de hoy, 11 de Junio de 2012, ha tenido lugar la ceremonia de entrega de los Premios Tonys en la que se ha alzado como más premiado el musical ONCE, que partía con once nominaciones y se ha hecho con OCHO de los premios. Ha sido un año en el que lo que escaseaba era originalidad sobre los escenarios. Un año en el que competían Andrew Lloyd Webber con dos musicales de sus inicios (Evita y Jesus Christ Superstar), Stephen Sondheim (Follies), Ira & George Gershwin (Porgy and Bess, Nice work if you can get it) y tres adaptaciones de peliculas a musical (Newsies, Ghost y Once), en las que la mayoría estaban escritas muuuuuchos años atrás. Además lo más “original” no resistió en cartel hasta el día de la ceremonia, como el “Leap of faith” (Menken) o Bonnie & Clyde (Wildhorn).
Neil Patrick Harris sigue manejándose con tremenda soltura en el escenario y lo mismo te hace un pupurri de canciones, como te lee unos chistes que se le han ocurrido de mezclar titulos de musicales con películas (The towering inferNo, no Nanette, o My left foot-loose, etc.), además de algún gag como uno dedicado a Spiderman y sus múltiples problemas técnicos. También la salida de Patty LuPone con Mandi Patinkin para presentar el premio al mejor revival de un musical, en el que bromearon haciendo duos de todos los revivals nominados, teniendo en cuenta que ellos fueron los originales Che y Evita en Broadway, fue curiosa también.
La gran sorpresa fue el Tony al mejor revival de un musical que se llevó PORGY & BESS, que también se hizo con el de la mejor actriz de un musical, que fue para Audra McDonald que se llevó su quinto Tony, equiparándose a Angela Lansbury y Julie Harris. Tras la polémica emprendida por Stephen Sondheim criticando los cambios en esta ópera, se ha visto que sus opiniones no frenaron el éxito de esta adaptación y más cuando competía nada menos que con su alabada versión de FOLLIES y los dos megaéxitos de Lloyd Webber EVITA y JESUCRISTO SUPERSTAR.
Alan Menken se lleva por fin su primer Tony, aunque es una lástima que lo haga por una música que en su mayor parte estuvo compuesta hace veinte años para NEWSIES y no lo haya conseguido por sus más recientes LEAP OF FAITH o SISTER ACT, años atrás, pero es lo que hay. Las dos reposiciones de Lloyd Webber no se hicieron con ningún premio y la de Sondheim se llevó el Tony al mejor diseño de vestuario.
