MOTOWN, The musical

Estamos ante otro jukebox. En esta ocasión entrando a saco en el catálogo del sello Motown, creado por Berry Gordy a finales de los años cincuenta, que descubrió a todo un grupo de intérpretes de color, que iban de Diana Ross y las Supremes, Steve Wonder, Marvin Gaye o Jackson Five y Michael Jackson, los Tempations, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, a Lionel Richie, entre otros.

El libreto es del mismo Berry Gordy, basado en su autobiografía publicada en 1994 con el título de “To Be Loved: the Music, the Magic, the Memories of Motown” y que fue criticado por lo endeble de su argumento, ya que para incluir las más de cincuenta canciones que aparecen en el musical, muchas de ellas están presentadas en plan concierto, bastantes cortadas parcialmente, para dar cabida al mayor número de canciones, aunque no aporten nada al desarrollo de la historia.El musical se estrenó en Broadway el 14 de Abril de 2013 y consiguió cuatro nominaciones a las premios Tony: Mejor Actriz en un musical (Valisia LeKae), Mejor Actor de reparto en un musical (Charl Brown), mejores orquestaciones (Ethan Popp y Bryan Crook) y Mejor diseño de sonido (Peter Hylenski).
